| Rajpur Patta village mourns as marriage ceremony ends tragically | | 15 mothers along with their children swallowed by flash floods | |

Nowshera, Sept 28 : Soldier Nirmal Singh son of Gurdev Singh posted in Guwhati availed his leave to attend marriage ceremony of cousin brother but lost his life as well as life of his wife and two small children as the Barat bus got washed away by flash flood. This is story of a single family but unfortunately almost all the families of Rajpur Patta village of Nowshera tehsil of Rajouri district have some tragic story to tell. It was on 4th of September that Bhagat Singh resident of Rajpur Patta , working as postal inspector , was all ready with the barat of his 24 years old son Sukhwinder Singh and at about 11 :35 AM they left towards the Lam village of Nowshera as it was the day of marriage ceremony of Sukhwinder with Jatinder Kour daughter of Charanjeet Singh. After travelling four kilometres barat reached at Jhambir nallah and father of groom namely Bhagat Singh crossed the nallah by foot as the water level in it was very low. But when the bus carrying groom Sukhwinder Singh and 71 other baratis entered in the nallah , the water level suddenly rose due to flash flood and bus got washed away.
Five persons travelling in it managed to jump out while rest 67 were swallowed by flooded Jhambir nallah and spread a wave of tragedy and horror not only in Rajpur village but in whole district.Nirmal Singh , an Indian army soldier , was posted in Guwhati and just to attend the marriage ceremony of his cousin brother he availed leave and came home and was going on barat with his wife Dalbir Kour , an eleven years old daughter and eight years old son but all were washed away in bus and died.
Similarly army man Rattan Singh son of Harjeet Singh also came home to attend the marriage but died in this tragedy.
Harbans Singh son of Gurmukh Singh is having tears in his eyes as he lost his wife Narinder Kour , daughter in law Surinder Kour and three years old grandson Harmandeep Singh and tears are flowing from his eyes as except his son Manjeet Singh , who jumped out of bus, he has no one in his family now. Bahadur Singh , father of groom , not only lost his groom son but daughters of his elder brother namely Gursaran Kour and Gurmeet Kour , who died along with their one children each. Both these were although daughters of Amarjeet Singh who expired many years ago, but Bhagat Singh was their guardian as both grew in his lap.
The list of the person who died or are missing gives another tragic turn to this incident as several couples , mother - son duo, mother - daughter - duo etc died in it.T
he family members who died in this tragedy include Gursaran Singh wife of Tarvinder Singh and her son Gagandeep Singh, Manmohan Singh son of Daljeet Singh and his wife Jagmeet Kour, Manjeet Kour wife of Surinder Singh and her son Taranjeet Singh, Jasvinder Kour wife of Jarnail Singh and her daughter Harmant Kour, Dalbir Kour wife of Nirmal Singh and her son Jasvinder Singh, Amrit Kour sife of Antar Singh and her son Sahab Singh, Rita Kour wife of Madaan Singh her son Gurvinder Singh and daughter Jasvinder Kour, Manmeet Kour wife of Bahadur Singh her daughter Rupinder Kour and son Harpreet Singh, Gurneet Kour wife of Harvinder Singh and her son Gurkamal Singh, Ranveer Kour wife of Swarn Singh her elder daughter Gurleen Kour and younger daughter Tania who was just 45 days old, Manjeet Singh son of Chatar Singh and his wife Paramjeet Kour, Preet Kour daughter of Didar Singh and her younger brother Tarvinder Singh, Gurneet Kour wife of Karamjeet Singh and her daughter Gursimran Kour, Balbir Kour wife of Amar Singh and her son Dalbir Singh, Satvinder Kour wife of Harbans Singh and her son Jatinder Pal Singh, Gurneet Kour wife of Jagjot Singh and her two sons Taranveer Singh and Gagandeep Singh , Hakam Singh son of Gurmukh Singh and his wife Uttam kour and his another brother Surinder Singh, Surinder kour wife of Manjeet Singh and her son Harmandeep Singh, Amrit Kour wife of Rattan Singh and her daughter Harmeet Kour. All the rest deceased are close relatives to each other while body of fifteen of them is yet to be recovered and bus driver Lalit Sharma son of Bau Ram is also missing. |
