| Compensate affected families as early as possible : Bajwa | | | R S PURA, Sept 27: Expressing his concern over extensive loss to the standing crops due to recent floods, former Rajya Sabha member, Trilok Singh Bajwa today asked the State Government to depute team of the officers to assess the losses. He also demanded that compensation to the affected families should be given as early as possible. Addressing series of public meetings in Suchetgarh and R S Pura assembly segments, Mr Bajwa regretted that incessant rains and floods have caused huge damage in this region. He said that hundreds and hundreds acres of standing crop has been washed away due to the floods and rains. "The process of assessing the losses and disbursement of compensation should be on war footing because flood affected farmers are facing hardship", he said and also demanded that six months free ration should also be provided to the affected families. He cautioned the authorities against adopting cumbersome procedure to settle relief cases of the affected families. While observing huge chunk of the standing crop was washed away in the floods, Mr Bajwa demanded supply of fodder in the areas where floods have caused huge damage. Asking the authorities to make non-functional tube wells functional in the border belt of R S Pura, Mr Bajwa regretted that a large number of tube-wells are non-functional in this belt. These defunct tube-wells adding woes to the farming community because these tube-wells are the only source of irrigation in many parts. "Authorities should arrange funds to make these tube-wells functional", he said. Former Rajya Sabha member also expressed his concern failure of the authorities to repair transformers which were damaged during incessant rains and floods in this border belt. He termed the Jammu and Kashmir government a "total failure" and alleged that the coalition government has taken only anti-people steps. "The Omar Abdullah-led coalition regime is a total failure on all fronts. During the last six years this regime has done nothing except taking anti-people steps for its survival,", Bajwa said. |
