People protest, demand compensation for damaged crops

Rajouri, Sept 27 : Inhabitants of Chaprian and adjoining areas held a protest outside the office of Deputy Commissioner here, demanding compensation for their crops which suffered heavy losses in the recent rains and floods.
Inhabitants also alleged that they had not received compensation till today for the 2008 draught that had also damaged their crops. Krishan Lal, Numberdar Mohammad Mushtaq and others alleged that government had failed to release relief for the 2008 drought and now the recent flash floods and Thursday's thunderstorm followed by heavy rain and hailstorm had destroyed their maize crops. People demanded that Deputy Commissioner should constitute a team of experts to assess the losses to their crops and also demanded immediate relief for the 2008 drought and the 2014 flash floods. Protesters also met Jatender K Singh , deputy commissioner and apprised him about their problems. He assured them that the administration would make all possible efforts to redress their grievances.
