Mumbai, Sept 28: President's rule was imposed in Maharashtra today a day after the Union Cabinet gave its nod for the same on the suggestion of Governor of the State CV Rao. The state came under President's rule today, a couple of days after Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan submitted his resignation to Governor CV Rao on Friday after Nationalist Congress Party withdrew its support from the ruling coalition.
The proclamation for imposition of President's Rule in Maharashtra was signed by President Pranab Mukherjee, a day after a Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh agreed to the Governor's proposal of clamping central rule in the state after breaking up of the 15-year old NCP-Congress alliance.

The Congress and the NCP snapped ties after they failed to iron out their differences on seat-sharing just days ahead of last day to file nominations for Maharashtra Assembly polls. NCP had been insisting on contesting half of the state's 288 seats.
Now, all major parties, namely the BJP, Shiv Sena, Congress and the NCP are set to go it alone in the polls, which are scheduled for October 15.
As the state of Maharashtra came under President's rule in wake of NCP-Congress parting ways, Union Road Transport and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday said that the state now needed a one-party rule.
Suggesting that the BJP will take over the reins of the state, Gadkari said that one-party rule will change Maharashtra as his party will work towards its development, reported the ANI.
