| Academic activities hit hard by floods in J&K | | | Early Times Report
Jammu,Sept 28 : Acdemic activities in Jammu and Kashmir have been hit hard owing to unprecedented floods that damaged nearly 6,000 school buildings in the state. Out of this most of the Government school buildings in villages and other far flung areas have been damaged forcing the authorities to suspend the class work for about three weeks. Field reports said that wherever the authorities have started opening the school activities the officials,including the teachers,have to remain content with holding the classes in the open. According to these reports,while the owners of some private schools have started repair work and the operation clean the Government agencies are yet to swing into action for renovating or rebuilding the damaged schools structures. Officials said that in case classrooms in most of the damaged school buildings in the Kashmir valley were not rebuilt and renovated within next two months the Government may have to prepone the winter break because it would not be possible for the st udents and teachers to study in the open as after three months the valley would be hit by heavy snow and rain. Number of teachers said that in case the damaged school buildings were not renovated in time they would not be able to complete the syllabus.But possibilities of repairing,rebuilding and renovating school buildings were a colossal task involving several thousand crores of rupees. They said the reconst ruction and repai work may start only after the concerned ministry received funds under the Chief Minister's and the prime Minister's reconst ruction fund. These teachers said that the Board of School Education and school authorities have to be instructed to set the examination question papers on the basis of the syllabus completed and not on the basis of the syllabus. |
