Jammu, Oct 4: A group of scholars from University of Jammu, under the banner of " Disha Young Club" had started a two days Save River Tawi Campaign on 2nd October near Bikram Chowk at Shiv ji Mandir on the banks of river Tawi. According to press release, the aim of the campaign was to make the devotees aware of the harmful effects of the polythene bags which they brought along the MATA (sakh) that would make the river Tawi polluted. It was for the first time that the people were not allowed to dump the polythene into the river Tawi, besides talking to the people, a set of posters and stickers were used to make people aware of the consequences of polythene use. The volunteers of Disha kept a continuous watch on the devotees and requested them to hand over the extra material which they brought from homes mostly in polythene bags and allowing to use only those things which have relevance in the ritual, more than two trucks of material collected by the volunteers was later on handed over to the personnel of Jammu Municipal Corporation. The volunteers present were Asrar Ahmed, Azhar Amin, Mubarkh Ali, Anil Sharma, Abdul Qayoom, Bupinder Singh, Imshan, Simpal Jamwal and Mehraj ud Din. We also thank volunteers from Evs Department, Jammu University, Jammu Municipal Corporation, electronic and print media of Jammu and all the devotees who supported the campaign and make it a successful attempt. |
