People pick holes in Bollywood film 'Haider', demand ban on its screening | | | Asif Iqbal Naik KISHTWAR, Oct 4: Within hours of its release, Director Vishal Bhardwaj Bollywood flick "Haider" with Shahid Kapoor, Tabu, K K Menon, Irfan Khan and Shraddha Kapoor in its lead role has stirred a controversy as people here feel that it propagates anti-national" agenda. The story of the movie is based on the onset of militancy since 1989. The various social networking sites like facebook and Twitter are buzzed with discussion over the alleged anti- India story of movie and the clamor for banning the telecast of the movie was gaining momentum. "It is shocking to see such a movie playing full house on Gandhi Jayanti. The movie propagates the separatist propaganda," write Rohit Singh Rana on Social networking site facebook, adding "You can't glorify terrorism---Haider must be banned..!" The movie also derides AFSPA. The Kashmiri Pandit youth who watched the movie also slammed the film director for various reasons. "I condemn the use of a Kashmiri Pandit religious place in the movie song as a home of devil forces and demand its immediate removal from the movie," said Aditiya, a Kashmir Pandit. Aditiya also demanded immediate stopping of screening of the movie till the censor board issues fresh certificate to the movie. It is pertinent to mention here that the movie tells the story of Haider (Shahid) who finds out that his peace-loving, life-saving doctor father (Narendra Jha) has been arrested by the forces who in his bid to save lives ends up being branded as a militancy supporter. He returns from Aligarh (where he was studying) to realize that his mother (Tabu) and uncle (Kay Kay Menon) are behind a conspiracy that resulted in his father's disappearance. Bhardwaj and Kashmiri journalist Basharat Peer co-wrote the film's screenplay that goes beyond Bollywood's Pakistan bashing for Kashmir's troubles and speaks about the alleged atrocities of forces. Haider jokes about 'chutzpah' --pronounced as 'chootspaa' in the movie--and equates it to AFSPA (Armed Forces Special Powers Act the security law which gives armed forces immunity from prosecution while operating in the militancy-hit areas. Shraddha Kapoor plays a journalist in the movie while Tabu plays the role of a traumatized and hurt soul who is searching for peace and love wonderfully. Bhardwaj picks the drama of human follies from Shakespeare's works and places them in a completely different scenario, the director tries to ensure that the emotions of a troubled soul (Haider), subtle sexual undertones of the mother-son duo relation, the eternal human follies of treachery and adultery are showcased on the canvas of his cinema. |
