Valley witnesses increased man-animal conflicts after floods | | | Shakeel A Khan
SRINAGAR, Oct 4: The recent floods have invited a free movement of the wild animals in the residential areas giving rise to frequent man-animal conflicts. The wild animals that are on the prowl in many areas of the Valley have done harm to the humans as well as to the animals. Though the man-animal conflict is a routine in the upper reaches of the Valley, it has been noticed after the floods that the beasts are active in the densely populated area of the Valley. The recent flood has worsened the situation as the carcasses of the dead animals are scattered over a vast area in the Valley which in turn has invited the trouble. Before the floods it was a particular beast that would make rounds of some selected area but as per the reports, now the beasts are roaming in prides almost everywhere, giving very uncomfortable moments to the inhabitants of these areas. Of late these beasts have mauled two persons including a woman in the Qazigund area of south Kashmir. "Be it Qazigund in south Kashmir or Tangmarg in the Baramulla north Kashmir, the lives of the people living in these areas and in other areas are at the risk. Nobody dares to venture out of his house In the late or early hours because there is every possibility that he or she might become a victim of these wild beasts," Said Afroza Bano from Tangmarg while talking to Early Times. Afroza said that these wild animals carry out well organized attacks as they are so much confident that even the broad day light is no problem. Afroza said that terrible voices could be heard during the nights, sending shivers down the spine of everybody especially in the children and the women. Newspapers across the state always carry one or the other news item daily about the man- animal conflict but the authorities pay no attention this problem as the people of the Valley say. The life of the people has become hellish because of the fear of these wild animals as they have been confined to the four walls since the authorities are slumber, the people say. "The wild animals seem to be in well control of the situation as the government has failed to ensure the safety of the lives of the people of the valley especially of those who live on the higher reaches. The fear psychosis is running very high in these people. The government has to take measures as soon as possible else everybody will fall prey to these wild animals. |
