Army jawan killed, 5 hurt as militants trigger IED blast on LoC | | | M S Nazki
POONCH, Oct 4: An IED (improvised explosive device), that was triggered by militants from across the Line of Control (LoC) with the help of a remote control device, today claimed the life of an army jawan and left five others seriously wounded. Six jawans of 1 Mahar Regiment were on routine patrolling near their Gun Hill Post when an IED went off, resulting in the instant death of one of them and critical injuries to the remaining five, police sources said. The dead was identified as Naik Akshay Kumar Godboly. Of the injured, the condition of sepoy Shubam was said to be critical. He was referred to the district hospital, Rajouri. Other were admitted in a local army hospital. The IED was believed to have been planted by militants who after doing their job had fled back to Pakistan under the cover of thick forests. "The LoC is very close to the place where the IED exploded. It is felt that it was blasted with the help of a remote control device by the militants who were watching the movement of jawans from across the border," the sources added. This is the same area where two army porters were killed in a blast that had blown up a BSF vehicle nearly a month back. The vigil was further stepped in the area after the today's explosion, sources said. |
