| Traditional fervour missing in Eid festivity | | | Sandeep Bhat Srinagar, Oct 4: The Eid festival is likely to be celebrated with austerity due to the recent devastation caused by floods across the state. The floods consumed life and property and left a scar in the minds of the people. Many people have been rendered homeless in Kashmir particularly in Srinagar as many houses have been washed in floods and others have been suffered extensive damage mostly in Indra Nagar, Jawahar Nagar, Raj Bagh, Kursoo, Magarmal Bagh, Lal Chowk and other areas. There are heaps of garbage everywhere and people still do not come out of trauma. The busy Lal Chowk wears a deserted look as shopkeepers still seen cleaning their shops which otherwise seen hustle and bustle on eid festival. This time the eid will be a low key affair. Talking to Early Times, Fayaz Ahmed, said that the people are in shock and still not getting normal as they have watched death closely. The Srinagar city bore the brunt of this devastation and the fashioned residency road is gives an ugly look. Mehbooba, a local, living near Maisuma said that this is for the first time in their life that Eid will not be celebrated in a big way and people themselves have decided to celebrate it with austerity. There will be special prayers on Eid and I have decided to help others on this Eid. Though this is a Qurbani Eid but there is very few buyers for sacrificial goats and sheep. The market across the Srinagar city have not opened wholly.
