Dhananjay of Chhatisgarh wins FIDE Rating Chess title

JAMMU, Oct 4: Young 14-year old, Dhananjay of Chhatisgarh clinched the J&K Police Open FIDE Rating Chess title to be awarded with a top cash prize of Rs 70,000 on the concluding day of below 2000 rating tournament, organised by All J&K Chess Association at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here today.
Dhananjay won all the nine games to remain at the top with nine points. Arun Rathi and Sahil Tickoo of Haryana as also Vigneshwar S of Tamil Nadu secured same seven points.
However, second place went to Arun Rathi of Haryana to take home Rs 40,000 cash prize while Sahil Tickoo, again from Haryana, had to content with third spot to become rich by Rs 25,000.
In all, 25 places were awarded with cash prizes. Fourth position holder, Vigneshwaran got Rs 15,000, followed by Rs 10,000 cash award to Singh Soram Rahul of Assam. Vikram Ranolia of Haryana secured sixth place to receive Rs 7,000 prize and Akshay Anand of Punjab bagged Rs 6,000 for seventh spot.
Last ten positions among the top 25 were awarded with a cash prize of Rs 3,000 each. Host J&K too made their presence felt in the top prize winners with Ajit Singh (22), Asim Billah Wali (23) and Shivinder Chib (25) winning Rs 3,000 each prize money.
And, to encourage those young and talented participants, the organizers also gave away cash prizes under different categories.
While Maxim Singh, Ravi Sharma and Rajat Bhardwaj were declared best among J&K participants to be awarded with Rs 10,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 cash prizes respectively.
Similarly, Arushi Kotwal, Agrim Sharma and Aryan were named best in under-15 age group thus awarded with Rs 10,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 cash prize respectively.
Others who awarded the cash prize worth Rs 4,000 were Rishabh Jain (Delhi, best in under-12), Jagdeep Singh Sudan (Delhi, best in under-16), Aman Kumar Chauhan (best veteran), Meenal Gupta (J&K, best women) and Puneet (J&K, best unrated)
Visually impaired, Sankalp and youngest participants, Divyam Gupta and Nandita Khajuria were also presented special prizes.
In the valedictory function of the tournament, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), IRP Jammu, VS Sambyal was chief guest, who gave away the titles to the winners of different categories of this Rs three lakh prize money competition.
International Arbiter, Dharmendra Kumar was the chief arbiter of the event who was supported by Rajinder Teli, Anil Kotwal, Bindu Pathania and Ranjan.
Prominent among others present were Atul Kumar Gupta, Ashiq Ahmed, Baldev Raj, Taranvir Singh Gujral, Dr AS Bhatia, Ravi Singh, Raj Kumar and Thakur.
