BANDIPORA, Nov 5: Sixteen candidates filed their nomination papers for upcoming assembly elections on wednesday in Bandipora district of north Kashmir, which is scheduled to be held on November 25. According to sources, 27 candidates had taken nomination forms from the office of the Deputy Commissioner's office Bandipora who is also District Election officer. Sources said, the candidates who filed their nomination papers are, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Usman Majid of Congress, Muhammad Abdullah Wani of National Conference (NC), Prof. Ismail Ashana of People Conference, Abdul Rehman Tikiri of the Bharatiya Janata Party and others as independent candidates. It is pertinent to mention here that November 05 was the last date for filing of the nomination of papers, whereas the constituency is scheduled to go for polls on November 25 of this month. Early Times learnt from reliable sources that workers of Congress and Peoples Democratic Party exchanged blows and abused each other outside the Mini-secretariat on Wednesday as the candidates of the two parties arrived to file their nominations. Eyewitness said that the Congress and PDP candidate for Bandipora, Usman Majid and Nizamu-Ud- Din Bhat reached the spot at the same time with their supporters who assaulted each other by the sticks holding their respective flags. At least 400 workers of both the parties got involved in a brawl as Congress candidate Usman Majid and the PDP nominee Nizamudin Bhat arrived at the mini secretariat eyewitness added. Meanwhile Jammu and Kashmir Police tried to pacify the agitated workers of both the parties, and later police took workers of both the parties into the confidence and controlled the situation. |
