JU Law Department turns into boxing ring | Row over freshers' party | | Mohd Irfan Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 5: Students of 3rd semester and 5th semester of the Law department of University of Jammu today clashed reducing the department into a boxing ring following differences over holding customary freshers' party. Sources informed Early Times that besides differences over scheduled date of fresher party, seniors of 5th semester were sore over certain juniors misbehaving with senior girls. According to reports, some seniors went into the chamber of HOD, seeking cancellation of the party. HOD gave his consent to the decision and also informed the Dean Students Welfare regarding the same. Seniors alleged that the juniors had taken decision without consulting them and were arrogant. Sources divulge that students of 3rd semester were adamant to hold party as scheduled as they had made all preparation and students had contributed for the party. The simmering differences between the students of two batches soon resulted into a fight between the students. Students also ransacked the infrastructure of department and smashed the notice Board, window panes etc. Meanwhile, security men arrived at the scene, but by that time, the fighting groups were isolated. Sensing the gravity of the situation, DSW rushed to the spot to pacify the students and chalked out a strategy with HOD and other officers. After hectic deliberations both the seniors and juniors agreed to reach a compromise. Talking to Early Times, DSW Prof. Pankaj Shrivastav said, "students of 3rd semester and 5th semester fought between themselves over the freshers party and finally the dispute was resolved amicably". |
