Party leaves space for pre-poll alliance | Azad, Soz not to contest | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 5: Showing interest in pre-poll alliance, the Congress party has left some seats vacant in Kashmir valley for its allies. The party finalized the list of candidates with most of the sitting MLAs finding place in it. Interestingly neither JKPCC chief Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz nor the former Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha member, Ghulam Nabi Azad will contest the elections. However, Soz's son, Salman Soz is likely to be fielded from Baramulla constituency. While Peerzada Mohammad Sayed, Taj Mohi-ud-Din and Ghulam Ahmad Mir will contest from their respective constituencies, the party has decided not to field any candidate from Gulmarg constituency where Agriculture Minister, Ghulam Hasan Mir is contesting. The party is fielding former counter-insurgent turned politician, Usman Majid from Bandipora and founder of counter insurgency, Kukka Parrey's son, Imtiaz Parrey from Sonwari constituency. Most of the candidates from Jammu are likely to be retained. However, former Health Minister Shabir khan who is facing molestation charges is likely to be dropped. The party has forwarded Shabir Khan's name to the high command besides two others to choose from. |
