After Azad, it's Soz's turn to lambast NC | But coalition Govt is intact | | Rustam Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 5: The Congress continues to remain an integral part of the roundly condemned Government that is being headed by the outgoing Chief Minister and owner of NC Omar Abdullah. It is not only the parties like the PDP, BJP, BSP, Panthers Party or the CPI-M which are dismissing the NC-Congress coalition Government with contempt as anti-democratic, corrupt and anti-people. The Congress, which has been sharing power with the NC since January 2009 and still part of the Government, too, is not leaving any stone unturned to expose the Government as well as the NC. The fact is that JKPCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, who represent two main factions in the Congress party and do not see eye to eye with each other, are on the same page as far as their attitude towards the NC and the NC-led Government is concerned. Both the senior leaders of the party have been publicly saying that the Congress didn't gain by keeping a truck with the NC. One day, it is Azad who says that the Congress' credibility and support-base declined because of its association with the NC. The very next day, it is Soz who pounces upon the NC and says that the Congress didn't gain by allying itself with the NC. "Our experience with the NC is not good," he is saying. Both the Congress leaders are not realizing the kind of harm they are causing to their own party by taking on and exposing the Government of which the Congress is a part. The people are asking: Why didn't the Congress quit the Government if it felt that it was non-performing and the NC was not accommodating? In a way, they are holding the NC and the Congress equally responsible for the failure of the State Government to come up to the expectations of the people and deliver. Their question and view appears to be correct. The senior Congress leaders are not only on the same page as far as their attitude towards the NC and the Omar Abdullah-led coalition Government is concerned. They also share the view that the Congress cannot come to power in the state on its own and that if the Congress is to remain in power, it has to enter into an alliance with one Kashmiri party or the other. They are saying that the Congress would emerge as the single largest party and would play the role of kingmaker after the election results are out. In the process, they are harming the interests of their own party. Why should people vote for a party that says that it cannot form Government on its own strength? An impression has gained ground, particularly in Jammu and Ladakh, that the Congress has no legs of its own to stand and that it is the B-team of the Kashmiri parties. In other words, the Congress stands discredited in the eyes of the people these two regions. Very importantly, the Congress leadership is not realizing that it itself is damaging its own cause and losing support-base at an alarming speed with each passing day. |
