MENDHAR, Nov 5: A major infiltration bid was late Tuesday night foiled by alert army troops from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Mankote sub-sector of Mendhar, Poonch, near here. A group of seven to eight militants came close to the LoC at Sonawali Gali at about 9.15 pm and made an attempt to sneak into the Indian territory. Their attempt was, however, detected by the alert border troops, according to official sources. Sources said when the troops challenged them, they opened fire which was returned. The Pak troops also opened the mouth of their guns to provide cover to the militants, the sources added. They continued making attempts to infiltrate up to 11 pm but the troops did not let it happen. Later, they retreated and made good their escape. Whether any of them was wounded or not was not immediately known, sources said. Early this morning, the troops launched searches in the area but could not find anything. The operation was wound up at about 4 pm. A tight vigil was being maintained all along the LoC to foil any infiltration bid by the Pak-based militants, sources said. |
