10 months on, Health Deptt fails to implement its own order on prescription in bold letters | Patients suffer, chemist shop owners making fortunes | | GS Asgotra Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 5: Majority of doctors across Jammu province have been violating the directions of Health Department, asking doctors to write salt names of medicines prescribed to patients in bold letters but all in vain. Sources in Health Department informed Early Times that in the beginning of 2014, the department had issued directions to all the doctors to prescribe salt names of drugs in capital letters so that patients could easily read them and get generic medicines, which were cheaper than standard medicines. "But after the lapse of nearly 10 months, doctors have not been prescribing drug salts in capital letters, creating problems for patients which in turn has been benefiting the pharmaceuticals and chemist shop owners to earn huge profit", sources said. "Something is fishy between some doctors and drugs companies. The doctors are generally prescribing drugs in small alphabets, the chemist shop owners often give other drugs and patients have to visit the doctor again", sources said, adding that the illiterate masses were being misled by the chemist shop owners. "There is a huge difference between cost of generic and standard drugs and the chemist shop owners make huge profit by selling standard drugs, which in turn is creating difficulties for patients", a doctor said. A retired doctor from GMC&H said that presently, most of the doctors were from affluent families, who could not feel the agony and pain of poor patients and never bothered about them. Medical Superintendent, Dr Ravinder Rattan Pal assured that he would take necessary steps and would further republish the same notice on prescriptions for doctors. |
