Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 5: Security forces including the army has been directed to be careful while dealing with mischief mongers, militants and supporters of separatists following reports indicating that attempts were afoot to vitiate the pre-poll atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Nowgam incident in which two yougmen were killed and two others wounded has given an opportunity to the separatists to trigger disorder. They have already given a call for shutdown against the Nowgam incident.
While holding anti-national elements responsible for kicking up trouble in the poll bound state, especially the Kashmir valley, official sources said that security forces have been asked to be vigilant and ensure that the mischief mongsers were not allowed to destabilize peace.
Sources said that the five-phased state assembly elections are going to be a "big challenge" for the security forces, given the threats of militant strikes, attempts of cross-border intrusion and the poll boycott call by separatists. Sources agreed that security agencies had been facing multiple challenges such as attempts of infiltration on the borders, possibility of militant strikes, particularly in the Kashmir valley, and the poll boycott call given by the separatists.
To ensure secure security environment for the public where they can freely exercise their right to franchise, various preventive measures and all necessary arrangements are being put in place.
Police circles said a high alert was being maintained across the state, particularly in the poll-bound constituencies, to defeat the nefarious designs of disruptive elements.
To achieve this the authorities have categorized over 70 per cent of polling booths in the Kashmir valley as sensitive where additional companies were to be deployed a week ahead of the polling so that the polling stations and their adjoining areas were fully sanitized against explosive devices having been planted by militants.
