Sham for strengthening communal harmony, seeks support for his candidature on 'development | | | Akhnoor, Nov 5: Senior Congress leader and Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma has called upon various biradaries (communities) to work for strengthening the bonds of mutual brotherhood and communal harmony for ensuring sustained peace and prosperity of the State and also sought support for his candidature on the development plank.Addressing large congregations of various biradaries at villages Jamotian, Mawa Brahamna and Malotian in Akhnoor constituency today, the Minister said that peace is imperative for the overall development of the State and this can be done with the sincere efforts of all communities. He said every religion teaches to promote mutual understanding, respect every religion and faith, which are the fundamentals for the development and progress of human being. "Jammu and Kashmir has unique history of communal harmony and it remained calm even at the extreme crisis like partition of two countries after the independence and need of the hour was to uphold the rich values and composite culture of the state," said the Minister. Seeking support for his candidature in the assembly elections, Sham urged the people to vote for the development and progress which he has ensured during the past over one decade. He also asked them not to be misled in the name of casteism, religion and petty issues which would be raked by the vested interests during the election campaign, but give due thought before making the choice of their representative. He said elections after every six years provide an opportunity to the voters to analyze the performance of their representative during the tenure and if, he is found successful in fulfilling their aspirations, and then they must give him the chance to serve again. But, before deciding they must judge his overall performance, said Sharma. Making mention of his best efforts to serve the people with best of his ability during his two successive tenures, the Minister said on every good and odd occasion he remained associated with them and his doors for each one remained opened for 24 hours. He said he tried to address the basic issues of public like providing uninterrupted drinking water supply, power supply, strengthening road connectivity, creating employment opportunities to the local youth, opening and upgradation of schools, health institutions. Several local leaders, biradaris heads and Sarpanchs including, Mangu Ram Sharma, Mangal Bral, Suraj Prakash, Vikram Singh, Vijay Sharma, Shakti Sharma and Master Rattan Lal Sharma etc also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the development initiatives taken by the Minister. They also supported the candidature of Sham Lal Sharma in the election and said that they want development which can be ensured by the existing representative. |
