Balwan demands protection walls, concrete bunds along Tawi Island | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 29: Continuing his election campaign, Sr Congress leader and party candidate for Marh Constituency Balwan Singh today visited village along Tawi Island (Nikki Tawi) demanded protection walls, concrete bunds along Tawi Island to save people from flash floods. During his visit to Tokrian, Kulyian, Kothe Bakshi, Kalyan Manhasa, Sampurannagar, Lakshmanpur, Sumb, Toph Manhasa, Malki Chack, Jawala Puri, Muradpur, Makwal Camp etc, Congress candidate held series of public meetings and listened to their problems. After hearing grievances of the inhabitants of these villages, Balwan demanded construction of a concrete Bundh on the embankment of the Tawi River to save Tawi Island comprising of more than 50 villages. He said that the inhabitants of the Tawi Island are repeatedly bearing burnt of floods due to their geographical location for which Balwan demanded a comprehensive policy or project for construction of Bundh, protection walls so as to avoid re-occurance of such tragedies in future. He regretted that huge spread of agriculture land in this belt has already been washed away in the recent flood so there was a need to take some effective steps. He also criticized government and administration functionaries for not paying heeds towards the inhabitants of this belt. He promised that the adequate compensation to those who suffer loss in recent flood will be his priority. He also demanded a new bridge nearby connecting villages across Nikki Tawi and also sought proper distribution of water from Tawi to Nikki Tawi. He also assured if voted to power Congress will give RBA status to border Inhabitants of Marh and other areas facing the brunt of border fury. Prominent others who spoke on the occasion include Ashwani Sharma and Suadagar Singh Saini Block President, Sr Congress leader Lala Devi Dass and others.
