Grenade attack in city centre leads to injuries to 8 persons
CRPF Sub-Inspector, minor among the injured

SRINAGAR, Nov 29: Lal Chowk, the city centre of summer capital of state grabbed attention as a grenade blast took place near the famed Palladium Chowk in the afternoon. Eight persons including a Sub Inspector of CRPF and a minor were among the injured.
At about 2 PM a militant hurled a hand grenade towards a picket of CRPF around the erstwhile Palladium Cinema in the heart of this capital city. The grenade was aimed towards the personnel of 132 Battalion of CRPF. The grenade, however, missed the intended target and exploded in the crowded lane causing injuries to seven civilians and a CRPF officer. All the injured were immediately removed to the SMHS hospital for treatment.
The CRPF personnel along with the civilians moving in the Lal Chowk area especially near the Palladium Chowk were caught unawares as it was after a long time that a militant attack took place in the city centre. There was panic among the people and they could be seen running towards safer places.
The panic after the blast spread to the adjoining market places of the Lal Chowk area and people became curious about the safety of their dear ones. Due to the blast both the public and private transport got affected in the Lal Chowk area. However, the order was restored after some time and normalcy returned.
As soon as blast occurred Special Operations Group (SOG) of police and CRPF reached the spot to take stock of the situation. They cordoned some of the lanes and by-lanes leading towards the Palladium Chowk and subjected some people to questioning. However, no one was arrested and the cordon was lifted after some time.
"Seven civilians and a CRPF sub-inspector have been injured in the blast. The officer has received injuries in his shoulder. We're looking into the matter, and the footage will help us to reach any conclusion," Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Sheikh Faisal told media persons. He said that police have laid Nakas in Lal Chowk to keep a tab on the suspected persons.
A police spokesman said that eight persons including a father son duo and a CRPF Sub Inspector suffered minor injuries in a grenade blast near Palladium Cinema here this afternoon. He said all the injured were shifted to Hospital where first aid have been given to them.
The spokesman identified the injured as Halima wife of Abdul Rashid resident of Chaki-Kawoosa-Budgam, Abdul Rehman Wani son of Abdul Khaliq resident of Chaki-Kawoosa, Budgam, Bashir Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Ahmad resident of Bemina, Ghulam Nabi Nayak and his eight years old son Farooq Ahmad resident of Devsar, Kulgam, Abdul Majeed son of Ghulam Hyder resident of Natipora, Mushtaq Ahmad resident of Shivpora and a Sub Inspector of 132 BN CRPF Hari Ram Devakar.
