Seconds Hina Bhat, skips Art 370, talks development, corruption | Modi changes BJP's discourse in JK | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 29: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has changed the discourse of the BJP's poll campaign in Jammu and Kashmir. He skipped Article 370 in both the election rallies which he addressed in Jammu region and shifted his entire focus on the "Family Raaj" and "corruption" prevalent in JK for the past six decades. The Prime Minister not talking about the abrogation of Article 370 and claiming that development only is the BJP's plank indicates that the saffron party has softened its stand on the Article 370, which provides special status to Jammu and Kashmir. During the recent past National Conference and Congress have tried their best to provoke the BJP to issue a hard hitting statement on the Article 370 but BJP leaders have maintained silence over the issue and have not fallen into the trap. Sources told Early Times that BJP leaders in Kashmir have realized that party won't be able to form the government on its own in the state and if it has to come into the power it has to join hands with Kashmir based parties, who cannot afford to even talk about abrogation of the Article 370 from the state. "As far as Jammu is concerned BJP believes that it has made enough inroads in the area and failure of the present NC-Cong coalition is enough for the party to bag most seats in the region," the sources added. The BJP leaders, according to the sources, have been conveyed that BJP being a part of the government in Jammu and Kashmir is very important to give boast to the "pan India leader image" of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A BJP insider while talking to Early Times ruled out that BJP has pushed the abrogation of the Article 370 from JK to the backburner. "We have realized that Article during all these years has been eroded by the same people who are swearing by it today. The only clause which needs to be done away in the Article is that outsiders should be allowed to buy and sell the properties in JK. If BJP forms the next government in JK it would hold a thorough debate on the Article 370 and its drawbacks. We are sure that we would be able to convince the people that Article has more drawbacks than advantages," the insider said. He claimed that BJP in its party manifesto has clearly mentioned that it would hold a debate over Article 370. "The BJP top brass believes that JK has not witnessed any development during the past 60-years and politicians have just raised hollow and emotional slogans to befool people. The funds sent by the successive regimes at the centre have failed to reach people and everyone knows it. Modiji is speaking the truth and he is making no bones of it," he said. "Truth coming to fore has damaged the cause of the regional parties, they are not reacting as they know it would open a Pandora's box." However, an analyst said that Modi not making any mention of Article 370 in his speeches is a clear indication of the fact that BJP is trying to appease the voters in Muslim dominated Kashmir. "There is every possibility of BJP losing a few seats in Jammu region for taking a U-turn over the issue," he said. "Modi looks like to have seconded the BJP's candidate from Amira Kadal Dr Hina Bhat who had claimed that she would take up the gun if anyone touches Article 370." |
