SKUAST- J organises lecture on wild mushroom production | | | Jammu, Nov 29: In a talk series organised by Faculty of Agriculture, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu), Professor Yashpal Sharma from Botany Department, University of Jammu, Jammu has delivered a brainstorming lecture on the topic "Wild Mushroom Resources of J&K for Human Welfare" in the Committee hall of SKUAST-Jammu, Chatha.The lecture was attended by more than 100 delegates including faculty members and PG students of SKUAST Jammu Dr. JP Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, SKUAST-Jammu while extending warm welcome to the speaker presided over the function where senior professors of faculty Dr. SA Mallick, Dr. DP Abrol, Dr Rakesh Nanda and Dr.SK Mondal were present. Dr. Yashpal informed that wild mushroom diversity should be explored in J&K and their biochemical and molecular characterization needs to be done. He stressed that Universities should organise lectures and trainings on culturing of some important wild and edible mushrooms of indigenous existence like Flammulinavelutipes, Coprinus comates etc. Dr. Sharma further told that China is No. 1 in the world in mushroom production where as India stands at No. 54, so there is a need to sensitise the scientific community and researchers regarding the mushroom cultivation and to explore their neutraceutical and pharmaceutical potential. |
