NDA Govt has miserably failed to fulfil its promises: Ambika | Cong-led Government focused on all round development: Azad | | Early Times Report
Jammu/ Srinagar, Nov 29: Asserting that Congress has played a historic role in steering the country to its present status as an 'emerging power', Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and former chief minister of J&K, Ghulam Nabi Azad said that it is the Congress which has represented the masses ever since its birth in 1885. GhulamNabi Azad was speaking at a number of public meetings in Chenani, Reasi, Gool-Arnas, Gulabgarh & Devsar Constituencies which are slated to go for polls in the second phase. Ambika Soni, General Secretary AICC also addressed the gatherings while Jugal Kishore Sharma, MLC & contesting Candidate, Ajaz Ahmad Khan, MOS & Contesting Candidate from Gool-Arnas, Mumtaz Ahmad Khan, Contesting Candidate Gulabgarh-Mahore, Mohammad Amin Bhat, Ex MLC & Contesting Candidate and other prominent leaders were present. Drawing inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi's emphasis on rural areas, Azad said that Congress launched numerous popular and successful initiatives like 73rd Amendment, MGNREGA, Indira AwasYojana, Sarv Siksha Abhiyaan, National Rural Health Mission, Mid-Day Meal, etc to ameliorate the lot of rural India. Azad also highlighted various achievements and contributions made by Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, Mrs Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi towards nation building. Highlighting achievements of UPA Government he said, "Ten years of UPA Government created state-of-art infrastructure on an unprecedented scale across the length & breadth of the country, in addition to landmark initiatives like RTI, MGNREGA, Food Security Act." Seeking a decisive mandate, Azad said that Congress will revive an era of progress and progress in the State also by ensuring justice to all the regions with special focus on remote and hilly areas of state. Flagging reconstruction of the flood-ravaged State as a priority, Azad said that keeping in view the destruction and damage in all parts of the State it is absolutely necessary to have a credible, effective and sensitive Government in the State at this juncture. Questioning the credentials of PDP in the light of its tall claims of fighting BJP, Azad said that how can people of the State accept their sermonizing rhetoric when its covert attempts to support BJP in the Chenab region, both in the Parliament and Assembly elections, have become a hot buzz across the State. He said that 'opportunism' is the appropriate tagline to describe PDP, as they never acknowledge the support of UPA Govt, Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson, Smt Sonia Gandhi that they received so generously on all fronts while heading the coalition Government in the State. Ambika Soni, General Secretary AICC while speaking on the occasion launched a frontal attack on the BJP, saying that it has miserably failed to fulfill the promises it made to the people of the country during the Lok Sabha elections, and as such, has gradually started backing out on those promises. Cautioning the people about the hollow slogans of the BJP, Ambika Soni said that after seven months of the NDA Government in the Centre there is hardly any change in the lives of common masses which clearly proves that the BJP is selling dreams and hollow slogans to the people without any visible impact on the ground. "Congress works for the welfare of the people and country tirelessly, while BJP Government focuses on publicity and photo ops", said Ambika. |
