Unscheduled power cuts affect BSNL, media offices in Srinagar

Srinagar, Dec 9 : Unscheduled power cuts for hours today badly affected the headquarters of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), media organisations and state government departments in the Civil Line area on a day when polling was held in 16 Assembly segments in the Kashmir valley. A senior officer of Power Development Department (PDD) when contacted gave no reason for the power cuts but said it would be restored in about two hours.There was no electricity from 1200 hrs in major areas in the Civil Lines, including Exchange road, Barbar Shah, Red Cross road and adjoining areas. BSNL, UNI, AFP and other media offices, besides office of Joint Director Information, government press and banks were badly affected. BSNL and media offices had to switch over to local generators because of polling in 16 Assembly segments in the third phase.
