PM makes no mention of Haji Yusuf death, family disappointed | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 9: Prime Minister and star campaigner for BJP, Narendra Modi talked development in his Srinagar rally on Monday. Surprisingly no statement against Pakistan was issued. Instead Modi focused on development and eradicating corruption. Modi's guided words won him many admirers. However, a family seeking justice was disappointed. Haji Yusuf, a National Conference worker died in mysterious circumstances on September 29, 2011 while in the custody of IG Crime Branch. The deceased was handed over to the IG by the Chief Minister himself. Yusuf was called by the Chief Minister to his residence in connection with a `murky money deal.' An enquiry held by the police and a report submitted by Justice Bedi exonerated the Chief Minister. However, addressing an election rally at Uri last week, Omar Abdullah admitted that Yusuf died in the custody of former IG Crime, Raja Aijaz Ali. Raja joined People’s Democratic Party (PDP) after his recent retirement. Following Omar's statement, Yusuf's son Talib Husain sought Modi's intervention for justice. Addressing a press conference, he urged the Prime Minister to direct the state police chief to register a case of murder against Omar and his associates including Devender Singh Rana, Nasir Aslam Wani and security officer Shabir Ahmad. He also urged the former IG Crime, Raja Aijaz Ali to come forward and record his statement. Aijaz while responding to Omar's allegations said that Yusuf was harassed and tortured in the Chief Ministerial chamber. |
