Alleged contractor-engineer nexus in Bhaderwah looting state exchequer | Works being executed without tenders | | Masood Malik Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 9: Alleged contractor-engineer nexus in PWD R&B Bhaderwah division is taking huge toll on state exchequer as the department is allegedly allotting works without inviting tenders to few influential contractors. Information obtained through RTI revealed that about 14 works worth several lacs were executed without inviting tenders by PWD (R&B) on BC Road Division Bhaderwah Bhalla-Tesna and Trown link road. "About 14 works worth Rs 10, 66,910 were executed by the department without inviting tenders", sources said, adding that funds meant for development were being mis-used by the PWD, R&B. Sources alleged that department allows some staffers to do the fake earth works on the said link roads. These staffers were alleged to be hand in globe with contractors. "Labourers who are shown engaged and paid by PWD (R&B) BC Road Division Bhaderwah during the physical verification for the information he received from the division in a reply to an RTI was also found fictitious", they alleged. Sources said when enquired about their engagement for said work executed by PWD labourers whose names are mentioned in the RTI reply said that they were unaware of such work. Sources also said that they have informed the Chief Engineer PWD (R&B) Jammu A. Hamid Sheikh about irregularities, but no action has been action so far. |
