Katra, Dec 9: Contrary to the government directives to state transporters, bus operators are not giving any concession in fare to Katra students and have been harassing and manhandling them. Whenever students, who travel from Katra to Jammu to pursue higher studies, ask for concession in fare, they are subjected to mental harassment by the conductors. "We are not allowed to occupy seats and are often asked to get down from the bus whenever we ask for fare concession," some of them said. When contacted, Manohar Lal Raina, Deputy Transport Commisioner, said that it was the right of students and handicapped persons to demand concession in bus fares. The students said the conductor of a bus manhandled them a few months ago while the conductor of another bus forced them to get down after they had asked for 50 pc concession in the fare. "The conductors don't entertain our identity cards," they claimed. Traffic police DSP (Reasi-Katra) Ram Singh said no bus operator could deny fare concession to students. "If any bus operator denies them concession in fares, he will be punished under law," he said and asked his field staff to trace out the bus conductors who had misbehaved with the students. |
