Jammu, Dec 26: Public Work Department (Roads and Building) constructed eighty two pre-fabricated sheds for the flood hit people in Jammu to accommodate them in the ensuing winter season. These people were rendered homeless following the unprecedented floods and devastation during the months of August and September 2014. Sticking with the directions, the department constructed winterized shelters sheds at Sidhra, Majeen. The land for the same was identified where after the Chief Engineer PWD(R&B) Jammu Abdul Hameed Sheikh visited the site and instructed for the works to be taken up on war footing. He further directed his Executive Engineers to execute the work in double shift around the clock. Following the directions Superintending Engineer PWD (R&B) Jammu- Kathua Circle,Jammu and his team completed the same with in 13 days. The Chief Engineer PWD(R&B) Jammu when contacted disclosed that eight sheds were constructed to accommodate the 8 families in Majeen, in addition to this, four winterized shelter sheds at Chowki Choura,18 sheds at Reasi Dera Baba, 52 sheds were completed in Udhampur, besides, 98 migrant quarters at Purkoo were simultaneously renovated and 45 floods affected families were accommodated in these quarters. Eulogizing , PWD (R&B) staff, he said that due to the proven track record of PWD , it is called upon in tough situations and like always the diligent Engineers of the PWD delivered the tasks,thereby justifying the confidence reposed in them. |
