Jammu, Jan 4: The Jammu and Kashmir Health Department is seemingly least bothered about the Tuberculosis (TB) patients of four newly created districts, which have been running with District Tuberculosis Centers, even after the lapse of nearly eight years. Sources said that the state government had constituted four new districts for Jammu province during the Chief Ministership of Ghulam Nabi Azad nearly eight years back but following Congress- NC led Omar government has failed to establish District Tuberculosis Centre (DTC) in four newly district Samba, Ramban, Reasi and Doda. In absence of DTCs the TB patients have to trek several kilometers hilly routes on foot while several kilometers to collect the TB- medicines and to get examined his/her sputum in Designated Microscopic Centre (DMC). Moreover, the government has deputed District Tuberculosis Officers but negligible staff has been provided, who have been running the show. "They have to collect sputum of TB- patients from different Designated Microscopic Centre (DMC) and also have to distribute the medicines of Tuberculosis among the patients with the help of multipurpose worker of primary sub centre i.e Directly Observed Treatment, Short Course (DOTS). "But the guideline mentioned that systematic record should have maintained and assured that patient take medicine timely", sources asserted. Ashok Singh, a retired employee from health department said that in Samba district, the DTC has registered/ detected more than 400 cases per years and that too in only four Designated Microscopic Centers which were established one each in Samba city, Vijaypur, Ghagwal and Ramgarh. When this correspondent contacted to District Tuberculosis Officer (DTM) Samba, Dr. Vinay Chib said that insufficient infrastructure has been creating obstacles to deal the patients. He further said that they had already apprised higher authorities, time and again for sanctioning of staff, but for no avail.Chief Medical Officer of Samba, Dr Kartar Chand told Early Times that when CM had inaugurated the District Hospital building Samba the habitants of Samba had requested for sanctioning of staff but so far nothing has been done. |
