JAMMU, Jan 4: Notwithstanding the fact that the Motor Bike Squad, which was introduced in the city to keep check on rising crime has remained non-functional since long, the police department is still charging fuel and maintenance cost of the squad from the government exchequer. Initiative of Jammu and Kashmir police-Motor Bike Squad, is apparently missing from the city roads, but surprisingly the department is still charging cost of the squad every month, informed sources. According to police officials, the cost of fuel and other maintenance of the Motor Bikes are still charged upon the government expenditure by the JK police in Jammu. Police officials, wishing anonymity revealed that the initiative of introducing Motor Bike Squad was taken by former SSP, Anand Jain to curb chain snatching, thefts, burglaries besides other social evils in the city, but the incumbent SSP, Uttam Chand failed to continue it properly, as no such bike is on the roads, while the department has been charged with fuel and maintenance of the bikes. They said that the former SSP had introduced 12 Motor Bike Squads to keep an eye on the anti-social elements. "In a bid to check miscreants and anti-social elements, Jammu Police has introduced a 12 member Motor Bike Squad to alleviate rising crime rate in the city," police sources informed and added that due to vested interest of the senior police officials, these bikes are non-functional and are not being used. They further informed that the 12 Motor Bike Squad was introduced with an idea to follow criminals in the congested lanes where the police gypsies were not able to reach and the criminals sometimes manage to give slip to the police. While three bikers each had been divided for Jammu North, Jammu South Jammu West, Jammu East and attached police control room can immediately inform them on receiving any complaint and they will act swiftly. When contacted, SSP Jammu Uttam Chand said that the Motor Bike squad is still active in the city. |
