Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 8: JKNPP State President Balwant Singh Mankotia Ex-MLA met Divisional Commissioner Jammu and sought his immediate intervention for expedition of the relief and rehabilitation process of flood victims.
According to press release, he was accompanied by Gagan Pratap Singh Spokesman Young Panthers.
Through memurandum he appiresd the Divisional Commissioner about the worst ever catastrophic rains down poured on September 3, 2014 which had washed away thousands of lives, crops, livestock and homes and left hundreds of souls marooned battling for their life especially in Udhampur District, Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu Province. "Subsequently, the Central Government of India assured an immediate relief and rehabilitation for the flood victims by announcing the package of Rs. One thousand crores to the State Government", former MLA appiresd the Div Com, addding that the State Government had also promised to provide free ration to those affected for at least six months but on the ground reality only few families managed to procure the ration for not more than one month and the promises and assurances made by the Governments only proved to be mere rhetoric.
The NPP leader said that the flood victims are living in pathetic and miserable condition without any relief and proper shelter. "The tents which were provided to the marooned people have torn out, thus causing grave inconvenience to the victims during ensuing spine-chilling winters", he added. "Saddal village in Tehsil Panchari of Udhampur District had been completely swept away by the incessant rains and hundreds of human bodies, bovine animals and children were buried alive in the landslides", Mankotia said, adding that several people turned homeless and marooned battling for their survival.
