Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 8: Ultrasound machine at the Rajiv Gandhi hospital Gangyal has been gathering dust for the past 10 months due the alleged lackadaisical approach of Director Health Service (DHS) Jammu. Sources told Early Times the ultrasound machine was installed in the hospital in February, 2014 at the estimated cost of Rs 6 lakhs. "Soon after the machine was brought to the hospital it found no takers as there was no space where it could be installed. However, a few months ago Jammu and Kashmir Housing Board established a fabric infrastructure but the department failed to install the machine," they added. "The hi-tech healthcare equipment at the Institution has been rendered useless as the health department has failed to install it even after 10 months", sources added. Raj Kumar of Gangyal said due to ultrasound machine not being functional at Rajiv Gandhi hospital people are left with no other option other than to visit private clinics and other health institutions. Ranu Devi, another resident alleged, "Authorities are delaying to install the machine to help the private clinics in the vicinity as medicos get commission for referring patients to private clinics for USG." When contacted Director Health Jammu, Dr Baljeet Singh Pathania said that due to construction of new block the old block of hospital was dismantled at the time the equipments were provided to the hospital. "The fabric structure of the hospital is ready and the Ultrasound machine will be installed within a week," he added. |
