As PDP, BJP fail to forge alliance; hopes of newly elected legislators get dashed | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 8: Newly elected legislators of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) are in a state of 'shock' and 'despair' these days following recent reports that both these parties have failed to stitch an alliance for forming the next government in the state. The legislators of both these parties especially those elected for the first time were keen to prove their mettle, but it seems that this will remain a 'dream' since both the parties are miles away in forging an alliance. Failure of the parties in reaching an agreement has not gone well with legislators and they are disappointed. Sources told Early Times that majority of legislators of PDP and BJP wanted the party leaders to focus on development while stitching an alliance for the subsequent government formation. Since both the parties failed to do so the legislators got highly disappointed and ditched as well. "Legislators more so those elected for the first time had promised to settle the basic issues of the people once the government was formed. Since the government has not been formed so for it is quite natural that these people are in shock. It would indeed need a miracle to happen before PDP and BJP form the next government in the state," said sources. Sources said that instead of tricky issues like Article 370 and Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) leaders of PDP and BJP have been stuck in basic issues for the formation of government. These issues have come up as stumbling blocks in the formation of government and initiatives at present are well in removing these stumbling blocks. "PDP have rejected the demands of BJP for a Deputy Chief Minister, rotational Chief Minister and allocation of Finance and Home ministries. Both the parties are adamant and none among them is ready to give up their stated position. As such there are chances that Governor's rule may be imposed in Jammu & Kashmir," said sources. Sources said that PDP Patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has categorically told the BJP leaders that there is no need to nominate a deputy CM saying that he is capable enough to run the government for the next six years. He has also made it clear that he would be chief minister for six years and that no compromise is possible on this point. "On the other side the BJP leaders are maintaining that since there is a difference of just three seats between it and PDP its demand for a deputy CM is genuine. They also say that the issue of rotational CM is must since it would give a chance for a Jammu based legislator to serve the people as head of the state," said sources. Sources said that there is a deadlock in talks between the two sides and nobody is ready to bell the cat so that the ice is broken. At the same time leaders of PDP and BJP are somewhat perplexed since people voted for a change in the assembly elections. If they fail to form the government then people may feel ditched. |
