Separatists' ire against proposed PDP-BJP alliance
1/8/2015 9:43:25 PM
Kashmiri separatists, belonging to the moderate camp and those owing allegiance to the hardliners, continue to oppose any alliance between the PDP and the BJP for sharing power in Jammu and Kashmir. The latest diatribe against the proposed alliance between the PDP and the BJP has come from Syed Ali Shah Geelani who heads the camp of hardliners.
He has gone to the extent of blaming the Muftis and the Abdullahs for having bartered interests of Jammu and Kashmir and the latest sellout could be in the shape of PDP-BJP alliance.Nursing imaginary apprehensions about the conversion plan being framed and implemented by wings of the saffron parivaar Geelani wants people of Jammu and Kashmir to get ready for any sacrifice for saving the Muslim majority character of Jammu and Kashmir.
He has said If Kashmiri nation wants to protect its Muslim identity, culture and freedom movement, they should remain mentally prepared for the decisive resistance. He has said the pro-India parties "have sold their faith, conscience and even national pride to India and none of them is capable of raising the voice against the dangerous designs of the communal forces. These people are power hungry and their first and last goal is political benefits. Some of them have cooperated with these communal forces in the past and some are today in line to do so.
He has accused pro-India politicians of J&K of "being responsible for all miseries and difficulties of Kashmiris adding they have never bothered about welfare of the nation. Palestine is also struggling against the Israeli occupation for the last 70 years. But they don't have people like Mufti Sayeed, Omar Abdullah, Kuka Parray and Muma Kana, nor they run after the chair. Those people have followed a single path and that is why the whole world is supporting the right to self determination of the people of Palestine.
The main ire of Geelani is against the Mufti Sayeed and Omar Abdullah, who have shown inclination on forging an alliance with the BJP for Government formation in Jammu and Kashmir. As a shrewd politician and as a well read person Geelani's fears over conversion of muslims in Jammu and Kashmir have no basis but he tries to utilize his fears while trying to unnerve Omar or Mufti so that they reject any offer from the BJP for sharing power with what Geelani calls communal forces.Geelani knows that the BJP Government led by Narendra Modi may not give any long rope to the separatists in Kashmir and hence he is keen on promoting political instability by forcing the PDP and the NC to reject any offer from the BJP for the formation of a Government in Jammu and Kashmir.
That Geelani's ire against the BJP in general and against Modi in particular is no longer seret. It is the result of this ire that he and his colleagues in the separatist camp motivated voters to come out in large numbers for casting their votes in the Kashmir valley because he had realized that high polling percentage was sure to force the BJP to draw a blank from the valley and that is what happened when the BJP failed to win a single seat from the Kashmir valley.
And it is the outcome of same ire that he is trying to cause scare in the mind of the Muftis so that Mufti Sayeed refuses to join hands with the BJP for Government formation.
It was in this connection that Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat,a senior APHC leader had met Mufti Sayeed where he conveyed to him that he should not form any alliance with the BJP for sharing power.Bhat is said to have explained to Mufti that the ill effects of the alliance on the party strength and on the PDP vote bank.
Well if Geelani and those from the moderate camp of separatists show interest in the shape and size of the Government that should be viewed as a positive development because hitherto Government formation had no interest for the separatists. All said and done it is upto to the Mufti to either accept separatists suggestion or stick to his plan which could silence the separatists. The ball is now in the court of Mufti Sayeed.
