Peshawar Massacre: Bringing Disrepute to Islam | | Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat | 1/8/2015 9:43:54 PM |
| The recent brutal attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar was an organised attempt by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) towards destabilizing Pakistan. TTP's attack is seen as a response to the Pakistan Army's military operation named Zarb e Azb in North Waziristan which was launched in June 2014. Although Pakistan army had earlier claimed success in operation Zarb-e-Azb but the attack on the Army Public School Peshawar clearly shows that the TTP has been able to maintain its operational network, particularly in Peshawar the capital city of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. This province has now emerged as a hub of TTP's terrorist activities from the last couple of years. The TTP has not only created its strong terror network in Peshawar or other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa province but this terror network has reached far down to the Karachi city where hundreds of TTP militants are believed to be active and terrorism related incidents take place in this city almost daily, claiming scores of lives. As the TTP has been split into various factions from the last few years , every divided faction is leaving no stone unturned to exhibit wide publicity and that is the reason they have now crossed all the limits of terror which led to the brutal massacre of almost 150 students at Peshawar school. The recent suicide attack at Wagah which had claimed more than 50 lives, is a clear example of the TTP's new strategy towards gaining name and supremacy among the divided TTP factions. Engaging in honour and revenge killings is not a new thing for the tribal population, especially the Pashtuns living in Afghanistan and Pakistan. These people have been engaged in such acts from centuries and that is the reason that no provincial Government could be established in Pakistani tribal areas which are still controlled by Government of Pakistan under the name of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). But the way these tribal people have resorted to terror tactics under Islamic banner of TTP for achieving political goals by launching a war against the state (Pakistan) is a matter of concern not only for Pakistan but for the whole south Asia. By justifying the massacre of 150 students TTP is bringing disrepute to Islam and this had defamed the muslims across the world. It is the duty of Islamic scholars to confront TTP's interpretation of Islam so that true picture of Islam is presented before the people. The Army has now intensified its attacks on TTP militants and even the Pakistan Government has claimed that they have killed Mulla Fazlullah (Radio Mulla) , TTP chief, in an airstrike undertaken few days back in Wazirstan. The TTP terrorists will now definitely strike at more places in Pakistan which is going to cause more death and destruction in the country. Under these circumstances it is the duty of all the political parties in Pakistan to sit down, leaving all their differences behind so that a joint strategy is devised which allows Prime Minister Nawaz Sharief a firm hand to tackle the menace of terrorism. Pertinently Nawaz Sharif himself has been an opponent of drone strikes but now the situation has completely changed in the aftermath of Peshawar school attack. The Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) and other global Muslim bodies should take a strong note of TTP's terror activities and it is their duty to provide all the necessary logistic support to Pakistan for its war on terror so that TTP's evil designs are defeated.
