J&K Karate team selected 2/8/2015 11:55:16 PM Early Times Report jammu, Feb 8:Trials and Selection for Kai National Senior Karate Championship to be held from 18th to 20th Feb, 2015 at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi were conducted at Gandhi Bhawan, Jammu under the banner of Amateur karate Do Association of Jammu and Kashmir, AKAJK recognized by J&K State Sports Council affiliated with Karate Association of India KAI recognized by Govt of India Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The players participated from all parts of Jammu and Kashmir. About 50 players fought the battle for their selection in their respective categories. The selected players for the Kumite Event according to their weight category are: Males: Below 50 KG Amit Sharma from Distt Rajouri; Below 55 KG Suheel Ahmad Mir from Distt. Pulwama; Below 60 KG Ashwani Kumar from Distt Jammu; Below 67 KG Raja Shahbat Iftikhar from Distt. Pulwama; Below 75 KG Tushar Jandial from Distt Jammu; Below 84 KG Sunil Sharma from Distt Jammu and Above 84 KG Pawan Kumar from Distt Rajouri. Among the females, Deepika Chauhan in Below 55 KG category and Poonam Slathia in Below 61 KG category were selected unopposely in their respective categories. Both are former national players. It is pertinent to mention that Deepika Chauhan is already a Bronze medalist in previous National Karate Championship and is presently working in Central Bank of India. The selection was done in the supervision of Amit Sangra, Member National Refree Council from Distt Kathua under the chairmanship of Ambedkar Gupta, President of the Association. The others who were present on the occasion are Umesh Rekhi, Style Chief, Mustafa Mir from Srinagar, Dr. Mehraj-ud-Din from Ganderbal and Jung Bahadur from Distt Samba.
