Early Times Report
Katra, Feb 8 : Jakfed Gas agencies in Jammu and Kashmir used to grab extra money from its subscribers as cost of the basic amenities to be purchased at the time of buying a new connection.
Reliable sources told Early Times that the Gas agencies which are affiliated to the Jakfed Gas service used to grab more money from the subscribers on purchasing a new connection as cost of basic required equipments to be purchased on mandatory terms along with the gas cylinders.
Sources claimed that the Indane gas agencies used to grab money against some of the hotplates like Apron, Lighter etc which, according to them is mandatory equipments.
The Gas agencies in Villages or far flung areas are selling the cylinders as well as the hotplates too as these people are ignorant. A subscriber told Early Times that the Indane agencies charged around Rs. 500 more from the new subscribers. He said that the agencies compellingly sold Hotplates to the subscriber only in respect of making money from the innocent people. "It is mandatory to buy these hotplates as these are helpful in safety concern too," he was allegedly told by the agency.
Similar case was noticed in Indane Gas agency Katra where one of the subscriber was asked to buy the hotplates too for which he have to spend Rs. 500 more.
But this is not the case in Katra and far flung areas only, the Jakfed affiliated gas agencies in Jammu are also on same track.
A retailer of Indane when contacted by Early Times said that the company has set some rules for the retailers which also include the selling of hotplates on selling a new connection. He added that this is mandatory on company's part only; retailer has no role in it.
However, the HPCL retailer denied it. According to him, there is nothing mandatory.
Divisional officer of IOCL when contacted was not available to take call while Field officer IOCL,( Jammu, Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, Ramban) nwhen contacted said that it is mandatory to sell the Gas Stove as well as the Regulator in case the Subscriber does not have any as stated by the Ministry of Petroleum. He also said that on producing bills of ISI mark Gas Stove and Regulator or by verification by the retailer, the subscriber can also refuse to buy the both from the agencies. He further said "there is no such obligation from company to buy apron and lighter, the retailer used to sell this for own interest only".
