In RS polls, PC MLA exercised NOTA option | | | Bashir Assad Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 8: Of the 86 votes polled for the notification number 1 of the RajyaSabha elections held on Sunday, one vote has gone to the NOTA (None Of The Above) category. There was a straight contest between PDP's Fayaz Ahmad Mir and NC's Sajad Ahmad Kichloo in the first notification. This seat had fallen vacant on expiry of the term of PCC chief Professor SaifuddinSoz. The seat was won by PDP's Mir on Sunday. Sources today said that the NOTA vote was cast by MLA Kupwara Bashir Ahmad Dar of People's Conference. Dar had won the Kupwara seat against Mir by a thin margin of 150 votes in the recently-held Assembly elections. Sources said that as the independents including the Peoples Conference members voted confidentially, Dar got a chance to cast his vote on NOTA. Mir got 56 votes in total out of 86 votes polled. Er. Rashid did not cast his vote for the notification numbers 1 and 2. SajadKichloo of NC got 29 votes including 15 of his party (NC), 12 of Congress and two Independents M Y Tarigami and Hakim Mohammad Yasin. Mir was sure to get 57 votes. With Dar casting his vote for the NOTA category, he finally polled 56 votes. |
