Early Times Report
Poonch, Feb 8 : The residents of Jammu and Kashmir, who are still grappling with the aftermaths of the floods that wreaked havoc in September last year, are now struggling with erratic power supply. Presently, the power supply is only for as much as four to five hours in a day. The residents are blaming the government for taking no action and turning a blind eye towards their plight. "There is an acute electricity crisis as the power towers in Poonch were washed away due to the floods. Till now, the government has not made any efforts to fix the towers," said Amarjeet Singh, a resident of Poonch district. The businessmen here are also suffering as the power crisis is hampering their work. "We are not able to work as we get electricity for only four to five hours in 24 hours. With the winter season almost over, it will be difficult to work in summer," said Lal Din, a businessman. The residents also complain that their children are not able to study for the exams due to power crisis. They want that a government should be formed at the earliest and begin the restoration work. Jammu and Kashmir is presently under Governor's rule as a fractured verdict in the assembly elections held in December last year left no party with a clear majority. The highest number of seats was won by the PDP, but the party with 28 seats fell well short of the 44 seats required to form the government. |
