LMD Samba launches drive against unscrupulous traders, recovers Rs 20600.00 as penalty | | | Early Times Report
Samba, Dec 15: On the directions of District Development Commissioner Samba Sheetal Nanda IAS and continuing its drive to protect the consumers from exploitation by the unscrupulous traders ,the team of Legal Metrology Department under the supervision of Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Samba conducted extensive checking of various business establishment particularly karayana shops, sweets shops, provisional stores , atta chakki, fertilizers dealers , bakery shops, hardware shops, dispensing units, manufacturers and packers etc. Including 17 Miles hotel and restaurant at Samba, Vijaypur, Sarore, Bari Brahamana, Raya, patti, Ranjri and adjoining areas. During inspection, more than 85 traders dealing with different trades were inspected for their compliance with regards to various provisions of J&K Standard of Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 2011 and Packages Commodities Rules. The 18 erring traders dealing with the weights and measures were booked by the Inspector Legal Metrology Samba and penalty of Rs 20600.00 was imposed on the 17 erring traders for violation of various provisions of J&K Standard of weights and Measures Enforcement Act 2011(Amended) and packages Commodities rules. The Notice was issued to the one trader to attend the office of Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Samba for further Legal proceedings Besides this, the Department directed all the traders to use only those Weights and Measures and weighing and Measuring Instruments for Business transactions which have been duly verified and authenticated by the Legal Metrology Department and ensure that Maximum Retail Price (MRP),Date of packing(PKD), Net Contents and complete address of the Manufacturer/Packer and Customer care number have been declared on the commodities to be sold in package form as per the Legal Metrology packages commodities Rules . The Department also appealed the traders not to charge more than MRP declared on the Product The Department has also warned the unscrupulous traders to desist away from using unfair trade and anti Consumers practices to cheat the innocent Consumers and also appealed to the Consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing the commodities. |
