Police occupy Kathua stadium | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 15: BJP may be a ruling party in Centre as well as the State, but in Jammu and Kashmir, it is the police which is above the government and rule of law. This became evident from forceful occupation of Kathua stadium by the cops for a sports event, notwithstanding official allotment of the venue to an RSS-affiliated NGO and Minister for Forest Choudhary Lal Singh scheduled to be chief guest on the occasion. What can be termed as goonda act of the men in uniform, the district Kathua is learnt to have forcefully occupied the J&K Sports Council stadium in Kathua, which has otherwise been officially allotted to a RSS affiliated NGO for organizing athletic competition on December 16. Even as the stadium was officially allotted by the J&K Sports Council to the NGO two months back for organizing the athletics event on December 16 and all necessary formalities in this regard have also been completed, the District Police forcefully occupied the venue for a cricket tournament there without the consent of Sports Council as well as the NGO. After the event management committee members of the NGO came to know about occupation of stadium by cops, they approached the Police and sports authorities. Even as the sport council sought to intervene and explain that the venue has already been allotted to the NGO for its event, sources said that the cops refused to vacate the stadium and only said that in return they were ready to offer the Police stadium for athletics meet. After failing to get justice, the NGO members also approached Forest Minister Choudhary Lal Singh for his intervention explaining that he is the chief guest of the scheduled event and even invitation cards for the programme were also distributed. However, nothing was done and sources said that PA of Lal Singh also suggested the NGO not to take confrontation with the Police. The incident has not only established supremacy of J&K Police over Government but also revealed the spineless nature of BJP ministers who don't have courage to defend even their supporters and Sangh Parivar members. |
