Weather improves in Kashmir, Leh continue to freeze at minus 11.9 degree | | | Early Times Report
srinagar, Dec 15: Weather improves in the Kashmir Valley while Leh in Ladakh region continued to shiver after recording coldest night of the season so far as minimum temperature further dropped and settled at minus 11.9 degree Celsius. A Met Department spokespersons said here this afternoon that weather will remain dry in the Jammu and Kashmir during the next 72 hours. However, there is possibility of isolated rain in the Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. All water bodies continued to remain frozen at Leh, where the minimum temperature witnessed further drop and settled at minus 11.9 degrees, coldest of the season so far against yesterdays 10.9 degree. He said sky would become partly cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 8 degrees -10 degrees respectively at Leh during the next 24 hours. Kargil, a border town on Srinagar-Leh national highway the minimum temperature witnessed a slight improvement though, it was still below freezing point. Against yesterdays 10.2 degrees, the minimum temperature there was minus 9.4 degrees. Sun was out again today after a brief cloudy sky in the morning. However, the intensity of the heat was very low and sun was some time playing hide and seek. There was improvement in the weather after the minimum temperature witnessed some improvement in the valley, where world famous health resort of Pahalgam was coldest. Met spokesperson said the minimum temperature at Pahalgam recorded surge and settled at minus 4.3 degrees, still 1.3 below normal. However, it was one notch more than yesterday. Gulmarg, a world famous ski resort in north Kashmir also recorded some improvement in the weather. Against yesterdays minus 4.8 degrees, the minimum temperature was minus 3.6 degrees, half a notch above normal. Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, witnessed major improvement in the minimum temperature and settled at minus 0.4 degrees against yesterdays minus 2.7 degrees. He said the sky would be mainly clear becoming partly cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperature would be around 12 degrees and minus 1 degree respectively during the next 24 hours. Gateway of Kashmir, Qazigund, Kokernag in south Kashmir and Kupwara in north also recorded surge in the minimum temperature. |
