Early Times Report

Kishtwar/Doda, Dec 15: In a much publicized case of open loot by private transporters and drivers in chenab valley, commuters are suffering worse due to non availability of huge amounts in their pockets . Notwithstanding the issuing of fare lists by the State Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) to curb over charging by private operators, the vehicles plying on Chenab valley routes are openly looting the commuters by charging extra fare. As the Chenab Valley routes are the busiest route of the Jammu region having lakhs of commuters travelling round the clock in having various works at district offices and other government and private sectors, the private vehicles operators use to charge additional fare over the fare which is mentioned in the list prepared by the concerned MV department and particularly ARTO Kishtwar.
Even the concerned MVD Kishtwar when approached and informed by the local commuters that the bus operators are overcharging on the said route brazenly besides assuring that stern action will be taken against the defaulters soon , no action was taken as traffic police authorities had also put deaf ears and blind eyes toward said issue.
The mini buses plying on Kishtwar , Thathri , Bhalessa, Bunjwah and Doda routes are charging extra fares from the commuters while their fare has been fixed as per government norms of Motor Vehicles Department .
Not only this , these private bus owners forcibly charge extra fare from every passenger whether he/she is having seat or not. Pertinent to mention here that this is going on brazenly and many times the local commuters have been seen arguing with the conductors of these vehicles for over charging them.
Eyewitness reveals that , as these private bus operators know that most of the passengers who are illiterate and old and use to travel on these routes and being residents of remote regions as they don't have any knowledge about the local fare rates , the vehicles operators and conductors take advantage of this by over charging them.
It is important to mention that various times ARTO Kishtwar was informed about this open loot but till day no stern action was taken against culprits. Local commuters seeking justice from Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti have asked her to personally intervene in this issue and direct District Development Commissioner Doda and Kishtwar in directing concerned authorities to check out the cause and fixed fares as per government norms.
