Jammu, Dec 15: A high court division bench of Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Tashi Rabstan today asked the petitioner to approach government for opening district level sub-offices of SHRC. The court directive came in a petition filed by an NGO, seeking a direction to respondents to appoint the chairman and members of SHRC, which was headless since October 2011 and establish its sub-offices in all the districts of the state as per J&K Protection of Human Rights Act. After hearing the AAG, the bench disposed of the PIL with the observation that insofar as the prayer was concerned, the SHRC chairman and members had already been appointed and they were in office as a result of which the prayer was rendered infructuous. "Insofar as the prayer for opening of SHRC sub-offices is concerned, if the petitioner is interested in pursuing the matter further, it is open to him to approach the government for this purpose," the bench said.
