Rajouri, Mar 21: Police today thwarted a peaceful protest rally of the people of Nowshera Sub Division in support of their demand of Additional Deputy Commissioner post for Nowshera. The protest entered today into 35th day.
The protest later turned ugly when SDPO Nowshera and protestors entered into heated arguments and the former slapped a youth leader which led to attempt of self immolation by the youth which was foiled.
Thousands of people of Nowshera were holding protest by taking out peaceful protest rally at Nowshera town which was stopped by local police, the SDPO Nowshera who was present on the spot didn't allow the protestors to go forward and indulged in arguments with a youth leader Rohit Kohli, in aggression, the SDPO slapped the youth which made the youth to take some drastic move and poured kerosene oil all over his body and attempt set himself ablaze, but people foiled the attempt.
Some kerosene entered in his body through mouth and his condition got deteriorated, immediately he was rushed to the local hospital, where his condition was termed serious by the doctors and referred him to GMC Jammu for further treatment where is was put on ventilator and the condition of the youth has been termed serious by the doctors.
Angered over the behavior of police toward peaceful protesters, the local raised slogans against police and particularly against the concerned SDPO, who misbehaved, manhandled with the youth which led to such condition of youth leader.
Despite repeated attempts SDPO Nowshera didn't pick up the phone.
