Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 21: In what could be termed as Service Selection Board (SSB) lethargy, its officials ignored Chief Minister's direction on recruitment, as more than two months have passed and the aspirants are waiting for interviews.
Aspirants wishing anonymity informed Early Times that in previous month, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti chaired a meeting of all government departments in which the directed both recruitment agencies to speed up the process to hire people for state government services. Due to lackadaisical approach of SSB officials, hundreds of Junior Assistant posts lying vacant in various departments and the functioning were not smoothly.
Sources further said that the board had advertised more than hundred posts of Junior Assistant of state and division cadre of various departments under advertisement notice 01 of 2016 dated 06-01- 2016. Type test of the candidates for both cadres were conducted by board in December 2016 and after lapse of one year the board finally conducted interview but astoundingly, despite Chief Minister's direction the board yet declare selection list. "Several key departments in state facing acute shortage of clerical staff, to meet the requirement of departments the current government in 2015had forwarded hundreds of Junior Assistant posts to JKSSB for recruitment", sources said, adding that around 166 posts of Junior Assistants under divisional cadre forwarded in which 63 posts for Public works Department, 27 posts for PHE and I&FC department, 12 posts each for Power &Development department and Finance Department, eight posts for Tourism Department, seven posts for Planning and Development Department and other posts forwarded for departments such as ARI Training, Transport, Higher Education, Health, CAPD, Industries and Commerce and Cooperative department. Aspirants whose interview was conducted visited SSB office and asked about the declaration of selection list, the higher authority of board replied it takes more time, gives lamb excuses shortage of manpower though board has sufficient manpower. JKSSB, Chairman, Simrandeep Singh he was not available for comment despite repeated calls.
