Early Times Report

Srinagar, Mar 21: Many political activists have been accused of taking bribes from job aspirants in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources said that SSRB has received scores of complaints that candidates were asked to pay bribes for assured selection. "A candidate told the SSRB official that a person who claimed to be a senior official of the Board demanded Rs 5 lakh for ensuring selection as junior assistant," an official of the SSRB said. "When we enquired, we got to know that no SSRB employee had sought any bribe. They duped candidates in the name of providing jobs or securing their selection," the official said. The official said there seems involvement of political activists in duping the job aspirants. "Names of political activists may come to the fore if investigations are held into accusations," the official said.
Earlier, this month, police also arrested a PDP worker for duping a person of Rs 8000 for arranging his meeting with CM Mehbooba Mufti. He was arrested after a complaint was filed by a resident of Bijbehara Anantnag against PDP worker from Budgam. It has been learnt that several political workers have been seeking money from candidates on the pretext of providing them jobs.
The SSRB official said that Board has often received complaints from candidates that they were asked to pay bribes in the name of ensuring their selection. "Some candidates fall in the trap of these people who cheat them. Their motive is to mint money," the official said.
A candidate told SSRB that a person, claiming to be associated with a political party told him that he would ensure his selection if he paid him money.
The Service Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB) has sought applications for hundreds of posts in various departments. Meanwhile, the SSRB has advised all candidates not to fall into the trap of such "fraudsters".
