BJP toughens stand on Govt orders to DCs, Police
Alleged bid to change Jammu's demography
4/26/2018 11:48:20 PM
Early Times Report
jammu, Apr 26: The gulf between the ruling coalition comprising the PDP and the BJP is widening with each passing day. The BJP, which till not so-long ago would take things lying down, has started asserting and making political statements, which could even lead to trouble within the coalition.
The BJP on Wednesday toughened its stand on the alleged bid to bring about demographic changes in Jammu province, especially in districts of Kathua, Samba, Jammu and Udhampur. This time it didn't field its spokespersons to tear into the PDP. It fielded its MLC and former party president Ashok Khajuria, who had played a very important role during the Amarnath Land Agitation in Jammu in 2008. He had even talked about economic boycott of Kashmir.
Reflecting on the ongoing demographic changes in Jammu, Ashok Khajuria condemned the state government for issuing directions to Deputy Commissioners and IGP Jammu and Police not to evict tribals from the state and forest land they had illegally occupied in Jammu. He termed these orders as a conspiracy to change Jammu's demography.
"The minutes of the meeting held by the the tribal affairs department clearly indicates there is a major plot at our hands here," Ashok Khajuria said.
It was on February 14, 2018 that the Chief Minister issued directions to the Deputy Commissioners and IGP Jammu and Police Officers not to evict members of tribal community from the state and forest land. The Chief Minister also directed police not to provide police protections for evicting the encroachers from the state and forest land.
That Ashok Khajuria's assault on the government suggests that the BJP is feeling the pinch and trying to assuage the hurt feelings of the people of Jammu by identifying itself with the public sentiment.
