Early Times Report
srinagar, Apr 26: The voices to seek justice for the Kulgam sex scandal victim are becoming shriller. The victim was allegedly sexploited by some politicians and police officers despite her raising hue and cry Police have slept over the case.
The Kulgam sex scandal was first reported by Early Times on February 3 this year but till date Police have not filed a charge-sheet in this case.
Senior Congress leader and senior advocate Mohammad Aslam Goni while taking to Early Times said, "The government not taking cognizance of this scandal has put a question mark over the credibility of the government."
It's in place to mention here that victim from a small hamlet in Kulgam district had recently alleged that a police officer asked her to drop the name of a PDP legislator from south Kashmir "as naming him will create 'hangama' (uproar)."
The girl has also alleged that she wasn't taken to identify police officials and politicians involved in the flesh trade.
A Special Investigative Team (SIT) constituted by SSP Kulgam in February hasn't yet submitted its report. According to sources, the SIT continued to probe the case, but it has not done any credible exercise to establish the involvement of politicians and police officers in the sex racket as claimed by the victim.
Aslam Goni said, "It seems the government is maintaining silence over the issue to shield the PDP leader who has been named by the victim. It's unfortunate that we are unable to help our daughter who has come forward and taken the powerful people head on."
The Congress leader said that PDP-BJP coalition has been talking about "beti bachao" and "ladli beti" schemes but on the ground the dispensation has "failed to protect the honour of our betis"
When this scandal came to fore the victim girl alleged that she was sexually exploited by some influential people and that there exists a big sex racket that has connections within and outside the Valley.
Her revelations in a video clip went viral on social media. The girl had said that she was lured into the racket by some locals and later handed over to the pimps who were operating with the help of top men in politics and police.
She said that the sex ring was operating under the patronage of politicians and bureaucrats. The girl claimed that pimp of the racket, currently in custody, was in touch with a lawmaker of PDP.
Kulgam police have already registered a case U/S 363,120B, RPC at police station Kulgam and taken by investigation by constituting a SIT. However, it hasn't taken any action under immoral Traffic Prevention Act.
